MR Imaging and1H Spectroscopy of Brain Metabolites in Hepatic Encephalopathy: Time-Course of Renormalization after Liver Transplantation

Abstract: After successful liver transplantation, renormalization of HE-specific brain metabolite changes is detected at (1)H spectroscopy and precedes the disappearance of BGH. The neuropsychologic signs of subclinical or overt HE follow the changes seen at (1)H spectroscopy rather than those seen at MR imaging.

“…However, the Cho/Cr values showed difference with a p value of 0.03. The ratios computed with the RBFNN also compared favorably with those reported in literature [41][42][43][44][45]. The slight variations in the area ratios between published and our (RBFNN and LF) values are expected, since our values are averaged over all voxels covering different brain tissue types within the VOI whereas the published values are based on single voxel measurements.…”

“…The mI/Cr ratio obtained by the current analysis (RBFNN and LF) is slightly lower than that reported in literature [42][43][44]. This could be because the mI peak at 3.52 ppm is close to the water peak and the water suppression has a great effect on the quantitative values.…”

“…Para sequência de pulso, optou-se pela técnica PRESS ( point-resolved spectroscopy ). A análise da curva espectral foi feita por meio de um software específico desenvolvido pela GE/Siemens, mediante o qual se consegue localizar os picos de cada metabólito conforme a frequência espectral correspondente 3,[13][14][15][16][17][18][19] .…”
