MTV proteins unveil ER- and microtubule-associated compartments in the plant vacuolar trafficking pathway

Abstract: The factors and mechanisms involved in vacuolar transport in plants, and in particular those directing vesicles to their target endomembrane compartment, remain largely unknown. To identify components of the vacuolar trafficking machinery, we searched for Arabidopsis modified transport to the vacuole (mtv) mutants that abnormally secrete the synthetic vacuolar cargo VAC2. We report here on the identification of 17 mtv mutations, corresponding to mutant alleles of MTV2/VSR4, MTV3/PTEN2A MTV7/EREL1, MTV8/ARFC1, … Show more

“…Contributions of both actin and microtubule cytoskeletons have also been described in the context of organizing the edge-directed secretory route mediated by RabA5c. Microtubules might also be involved in controlling trafficking rates to different subcellular domains as revealed by PIN2 recycling [ 46 ].…”

“…Arabidopsis has 19 ARFs and ARLs, and with few exceptions, most remain uncharacterized (Delgadillo et al, 2020;Gebbie et al, 2005;McElver et al, 2000;Vernoud et al, 2003;Xu and Scheres, 2005). The roles attributed to members of this familye.g.…”

“…Cytoplasmic streaming, the myosin-driven directional flow of the cytoplasm, also plays a role in plant cell ER dynamics [ 237 , 238 ]. Interestingly, a novel ER and microtubule-associated compartment (EMAC) has been identified in plants that is anchored on microtubules, thereby resisting this flow [ 239 ]. Similarly, stable tubular ER junctions have also been observed to associate with microtubules [ 240 ].…”
