Multi-agent framework based on smart sensors/actuators for machine tools control and monitoring

Abstract: Throughout the history, the evolutions of the requirements for manufacturing equipments have depended on the changes in the customers' demands. Among the present trends in the requirements for new manufacturing equipments, there are more flexible and more reactive machines. In order to satisfy those requirements, this paper proposes a control and monitoring framework for machine tools based on smart sensor, on smart actuator and on agent concepts. The proposed control and monitoring framework achieves machine … Show more

“…The system core is built on the base of multiagent technology that allows for developing flexible and easy to reconfigure systems. Applying this technology into some monitoring solutions was tested by Desforges [22], Mangina [23] and Liu [24]. Multiagent system is consist of intelligent objects -agents.…”

“…A very interesting direction in CNC development is research on applying a multi-agent philosophy that allows the implementation of intelligence at various levels of the control system [147]. An example is the MADCON system that was developed to simplify the interaction between hardware and software functions, simplifying system customization and allowing for simple integration of control and monitoring functions [148].…”

“…Most are focused on solving particular problems important for building complex systems. An example is a multiagent framework based on smart sensors and actuators developed for machine tool control and monitoring [147]. Another paper addresses the need for modular component-based diagnosis frameworks for modular manufacturing systems.…”

“…Another application of smart sensors in manufacturing equipment and process monitoring and diagnostics, condition based monitoring and product quality monitoring is studied in [4,11]. A distributed framework based on smart sensors for machine tools and monitoring is presented in [12,13]. Therefore the idea of using WSNs in industrial application is justified in the literatures; however the implementation is not addressed for modern manufacturing systems.…”
