Multi‐Colored Fibers by Self‐Assembly of DNA, Histone Proteins, and Cationic Conjugated Polymers

Abstract: The development of biomolecular fiber materials with imaging ability has become more and more useful for biological applications. In this work, cationic conjugated polymers (CCPs) were used to construct inherent fluorescent microfibers with natural biological macromolecules (DNA and histone proteins) through the interfacial polyelectrolyte complexation (IPC) procedure. Isothermal titration microcalorimetry results show that the driving forces for fiber formation are electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions, … Show more

“…50 In this study, the CPEPS-OS-miR nanoparticles were formed by self-assembly of the oppositely charged CPEPS and plasmids mixture in aqueous solution. 51 To examine the surface charge of the self-assembled nanoparticles, zeta potential analysis was conducted. As a result, the CPEPS-OSmiR nanoparticles had positive charges, which not only can facilitate the encapsulation of the plasmids, but also may benefit the process of approaching cell membrane.…”

“…Nonviral vectors are promising for effective gene delivery due to their good immunocompatibility and transfection performance. Compared with liposome, polycations draw much more attention because of their simple modification and flexible design strategies. A number of polycations, such as polyethylenimine (PEI), , polyamidoamine, poly(2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate), , and poly( l -lysine), exhibit some favorable properties in gene delivery applications. However, the high cytotoxicity caused by positive charges is still an obstacle to the application of polycations.…”
