Multi‐Functional Carbon Dots for Visualizing and Modulating ROS‐Induced Mitophagy in Living Cells

Abstract: Reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐induced mitophagy is associated with a variety of diseases. Therefore, visualizing and modulating the process of ROS‐induced mitophagy is essential for understanding the role of mitophagy in cellular homeostasis, physiological processes, and pathogenesis. Herein, using fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), for the first time the complete dynamic process of PINK1/Parkin pathway‐mediated mitophagy is described. Induced by the photo‐controlled release of ROS, nitrogen‐dope… Show more

“…75 Moreover, the utilization of lower doses of drugs in a combination therapy may cause fewer side effects and better results than monotherapy. Leveraging tunable surface chemistry, CDs can be combined with immunoadjuvants, photosensitizers, or chemotherapeutic drugs for immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and phototherapies, 76,77 or a combination thereof. Furthermore, CDs capable of generating free radicals can be useful in photodynamic therapy (PDT).…”

“…As a new family member of carbon materials, CPDs have excellent fluorescent properties, low toxicity, high stability, and good biocompatibility . These advantages enable CPDs to be extensively used in fluorescence sensing, bioimaging, supercapacitors, drug carriers, optoelectronic devices, and photocatalysis. Various raw materials can serve as precursors to prepare CPDs . The reaction process allows CPDs to inherit the structures and properties of precursors, such as lipophilicity. , Among the many types of CPDs that have been reported, only a few types of CPDs are able to target subcellular organelles in cells, receiving increasing attention .…”
