Multi-Layer Blockchain-Based Security Architecture for Internet of Things

Abstract: The proliferation of smart devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) networks creates significant security challenges for the communications between such devices. Blockchain is a decentralized and distributed technology that can potentially tackle the security problems within the 5G-enabled IoT networks. This paper proposes a Multi layer Blockchain Security model to protect IoT networks while simplifying the implementation. The concept of clustering is utilized in order to facilitate the multi-layer architecture… Show more

“…However, the authors also provided a performance evaluation by using a blockchain tool and proposed some endorsement policies. In [15], the authors explored the performance metrics of the Hyperledger Fabric framework. Some researchers provided optimization of security and performance by using a blockchain platform with sensor-based networks.…”

“…The protection in our homes (e.g., the Nest) and cars (e.g., automated vehicles) that are progressively reliant on embedded networking infrastructure in regular business often constitutes a danger to Basic Technical Layer: The primary technical layer is the bottom-most layer of the proposed model with various physical components of the network model with a cluster of sensors for communication in a real-time scenario with switches, routers, and hubs for communication in a 5G environment. This is analogous to the sensor layer of the IoT layered architecture, as Shuaib, K. et al [46]; Honar Pajooh, H. et al [47], which looks after the communication's physical media. Various communication protocols, like Zigbee, Z-wave, LoRa, WiFi, and Bluetooth, are extensively used in communication.…”

“…So far, both scientists and practitioners have emphasized above all that with regards to financial institutions, blockchain technology provides better data infrastructures, and a better quality of delivered services that can be delivered more comprehensively and at considerably lower costs. Blockchain technology also enhances credibility assurance and security while providing a network authentication mechanism [30]. Moreover, MIT experts emphasize [18] that blockchain holds the promise of becoming the "New Deal on Data" and has endless benefit for data aggregation.…”
