Multi-sided marketplaces and the transformation of retail: A service systems perspective

Abstract: Retail is undergoing a series of major transformations as platform-based multi-sided marketplaces, like Amazon, Alibaba, eBay, JD.com and Rakuten, are challenging incumbent retailers.
