This study aimed to compare the effect of digital and printed multilingual dictionaries on young learners' literacy. Besides, it also explored the students’ responses on the implementation of those dictionaries. To achieve the study's objectives, the researchers followed a sequential mixed method that started with the quantitative method and followed with the qualitative method. There were two classes involved in this study. Those two classes were selected using the matching technique. One class was treated as an experimental class, while the other was the control class. To collect the study's data, the researchers used a literacy test for the quantitative method and a questionnaire, and an interview guide for the qualitative method. The quantitative data were analyzed statistically using an independent t-test, while the qualitative data were analyzed using an interactive data analysis model. This study statistically confirmed that the digital multilingual dictionary was better than the printed dictionary. The results of the questionnaire and interview supported the finding that young learners had positive responses toward the use of both dictionary, however they also affirmed that the digital dictionary was more interesting and could help them more to study English vocabulary with the pronunciations.

This 21st century and globalization era bring changes in various aspects. The starting point of the implementation of technologies is affected due to human development focus. The starting point of technological developments in education can be seen from the media use in the teaching and learning process. Manifesting technology through the use of instructional media, such as PowerPoint, video, song or illustration is also important to help both teachers and students in the process of learning. Therefore, the development of a Multilingual thematic digital dictionary of PowerPoint-based that has been produced can be a good media in assisting students’ literacy skill since it develops based on the curriculum, is involved with technology, and provide vocabulary as the main content. In addition, this research aimed on finding the quality of a multilingual digital dictionary based on the evaluation form of quality and validity of the product by expert judgment. This research resulted in digital dictionary media product produced is considered very decent media of 0.91 point with excellent quality.Keywords: Instructional Media, Literacy, Digital Multilingual Thematic Dictionary, Quality

A preliminary study found that the students faced literacy skill problems. The results of pre-tests proved that the mean score achieved by grade 4 was 42.49 (very low), grade 5 was 63.06 (low), and grade 6 was 49.58 (very low). Regarding these findings, this study further aimed to analyze whether implementing a discovery learning model that optimized a digital thematic multilingual dictionary could improve the elementary students’ literacy skills. This study involved four main steps, plan, act, observe, and reflect. The samples were 84 students determined purposively for deciding three classes among those nine classes representing 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. There were two kinds of tests, pre-test and post-test. The pre-tests were used to measure the literacy level before treatments, while the post-tests were employed to count for the literacy level after treatment. After four sessions of treatments and two post-tests, it was discovered that students' literacy skills could have been notably improved. The mean scores obtained on the second cycle, respectively, were 86.77 (high), 93.66 (very high), and 95.55 (very high). These results imply that the discovery learning model utilizing a digital thematic multilingual dictionary can enhance elementary school students’ literacy skills. Thus, it is strongly recommended that students regularly use dictionaries for their self-directed learning.
