“…Although there has recently been a growing interest in fluid flow through creeping salt (Aufricht and Howard, 1961;Niou and Deal, 1989;Stormont, 1990Stormont, , 1997Peach, 1991;Borgmeier, 1992;Olivella et al, 1996;Cinar et al, 1998Cinar et al, , 2001Cinar et al, , 2002Cosenza et al, 1999;Mueller-Lyda and Fein, 1999;Cinar, 2000;Ehgartner and Tidwell, 2000;Pusch and Alkan, 2002;Alkan et al, 2003), there is still a lack of reliable data on the hydraulic behaviour of compacted crushed salt. This is largely because most of the researchers have focused on the effects of compaction on the single-phase gas flow.…”

“…For accurate prediction of possible gas leakage into the biosphere, one needs data for two-phase flow through possible pathways coupled with the timedependent material deformation of salt (salt creep). A number of theoretical and experimental studies for the two-phase flow of brine and gas in deformed salt have already been published (Niou and Deal, 1989;Olivella et al, 1996;Cinar, 2000;Ehgartner and Tidwell, 2000). Reviews of a limited number of studies on fluid flow through salt (Cinar, 2000;Ehgartner and Tidwell, 2000) have concluded that there are no complete data of two-phase flow in creeping salt.…”
