Multiple adamantinogene Zysten der Alveolarfortsätze beim Rind, die Odontodysplasia cystica congenita, eine angeborene Erkrankung der Kiefer und des Zahnapparates

Abstract: Multiple adamantinogenic cysts of alveolar processes in cattle, Odontodyspfasia cystica congenita, a congenital disease of the jaws and dental apparatus A hitherto unknown fibrous-polycystic, proliferative, alveodental disease of the whole alveolar processes of the upper and lower jaws of an adamantinogenic nature in foetal and newborn calves is described. This new syndrome, bovine odontodysplusiu cystica congenitu, has been recorded in all three breeds of cattle in Hessen since 1965 in 17 cases with a variabl… Show more

“…The teeth develop from the epithelium of the oral cavity and blend with the periodontium, cement and dental papilla, which are derived from mesenchymal tissue (Rüsse 1998, Schnorr 2001. Various genes and signalling proteins involved in dental development have been identified; the development of the teeth and skull relies on complex interactions of the tissues and these genes and proteins (Rieck 1986).…”

“…Although solitary cysts are usually encountered, multiple dentigerous cysts have also been reported in horses (Hunt and others 1990); the affected animals were a few days to three years old and had been referred because of a painless swelling at the base of the ear (Hunt andothers 1990, Debowes andGaughan 1998). In cattle, heterotopic polyodontia occurs either as bilateral, symmetrical, fibrocystic proliferations on the alveolar processes of the maxilla and mandible (Rieck 1986) or as bilateral accessory teeth near the dental plate of the maxilla (Vogt and Distl 2001). Abortion or other congenital anomalies such as cleft palate occur with both forms of this anomaly, and affected calves fail to grow normally.…”
