Multiple-Power-Sample Based P&O MPPT for Fast-Changing Irradiance Conditions for a Simple Implementation

Abstract: This article proposes an improved maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method that features a simple design, and improved efficiency in fast-changing irradiance conditions. The method uses three consecutive measurements and compares the power difference between each two consecutive samples, furthermore the voltage variation between the last two successive samples is observed. According to the obtained result of these comparisons, the algorithm applies the suitable action either increasing or decreasing the volt… Show more

“…The photovoltaic module (PV-M) used in SPG is susceptible to the effects of temperature (T) and irradiance level (G), thereby reducing system efficiency [15,16]. Therefore, this study focused on the analysis and research of the SPG maximum power point (MPP).…”

“…3. The first one is the MPPT controller which uses perturb and observe method controller to regulate the reference of the DC voltage signal of the inverter to get a DC voltage according to the maximum power from the PV array [60, 61]. Second, the V DC regulator determines the required active current (see i d in Fig.…”

“…However, traditional P & O method suffers from poor convergence time, PV power during tracking as well as sustained oscillations even after GMMP has reached. Hence, several improved P&O methods have been developed over the years to mitigate these drawbacks [5][6][7]. However, these schemes are usually employed under uniform irradiance conditions.…”
