“…The negatively charged surface at pH > IEP favors Cd(II) adsorption due to strong electrostatic attraction. Thus, the change of surface charge of nZVI may also have contributed to the increased removal of Cd(II); and (3) high pH, especially above 7, could also improve Cd adsorption on iron oxide (Benjamin and Leckie, 1981).
