Multiplex Analysis Platform for Endocrine Disruption Prediction Using Zebrafish

Abstract: Small fish are an excellent experimental model to screen endocrine-disrupting compounds, but current fish-based assays to detect endocrine disruption have not been standardized yet, meaning that there is not consensus on endpoints and biomarkers to be measured. Moreover, exposure conditions may vary depending on the species used as the experimental model and the endocrine pathway evaluated. At present, a battery of a wide range of assays is usually needed for the complete assessment of endocrine activities. Wi… Show more

“…In fact, in recent years, embryos from small fish, particularly zebrafish, rather than adults, have been used to develop and optimize high‐throughput screening methods to detect EDCs (Jarque et al, 2018; Jarque et al, 2019). There are not many studies on dosage and exposure at late stages, but studies should be performed on exposure lasting for a lifetime.…”

“…Aromatase , cyp19 genes ( cyp19a1a and cyp19a1b ) in zebrafish are sensitive biomarkers for assessing the estrogenic potencies of natural estrogens and/or eEDCs ( Jarque et al, 2019 ). In tg ( cyp19a1b:GFP ) zebrafish ( cyp19a1b is a brain specific aromatase gene in zebrafish) GFP expression is under control of 3.4 kb of endogenous cyp19a1b promoter which includes an ERE and possibly also a glia specific enhancer sequence ( Le Page et al, 2008 ; Tong et al, 2009 ).…”
