Multiresidue analysis of 213 pesticides in leek and garlic using QuEChERS-based method and gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry

Abstract: A simple and sensitive multiresidue pesticide analysis method was developed and validated for 213 pesticides in leek and garlic based on QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) procedure combined with gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. In the QuEChERS method, commercial extraction salt packet, dispersive solid-phase extraction adsorbent packet, and ceramic homogenizer were used to simplify the extraction procedure. The gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/M… Show more

“…The use of pesticides saves manpower, reduces labor intensity, alleviates diseases, controls pests and weeds, and facilitates mechanized operations. To ensure high crop production, farmers commonly apply pesticides (He, Wang, et al 2015). Therefore, large amounts of multiple pesticides in farmlands have contaminated ecosystems (Pang, Wang, and Hu 2016).…”

“…Effective sample pretreatment procedure for extraction and purification is essential prior to analysis as pesticides occur in complicated matrices. At present, several pretreatment techniques such as supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) [5], accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) [6] and, matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) [7] and QuEChERS [14] are frequently and traditionally used for extraction of pesticides from fruits and vegetables. SFE is an extraction technology that utilizing the strong solubility of Supercritical Fluid (SCF), which has the dual characteristics as it is in a critical state between gas and liquid.…”

“…Many works concerning multiresidue analysis of over 200 or even over 400 pesticides in various matrices have been reported. [3][4][5][6][7][8] The QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) method has been widely accepted by the scientific community as a pretreatment technique for fruits and vegetables since it was introduced in 2003 by Anastassiades et al 9 For pesticide detection, nowadays MS/MS, especially triple quadrupole (QqQ), has replaced traditional chromatographic detection systems (e.g., UV, fluorescence, ECD, FPD). Although routine monitoring of pesticide residue in fruits and vegetables has received great attention worldwide, the chirality characteristic has not been considered.…”
