Mushroom species richness, distribution and substrate specificity in the Kilum-Ijim forest reserve of Cameroon

Abstract: Objectives: Mushroom species richness, distribution and substrate specificity are essential considerations for conservation and management of forest ecosystems. In this study in the Kilum-Ijim mountain forest, mushroom species richness, distribution and substrate specificity was evaluated. Methodology and results: Fixed size plot method, opportunistic and downed wood sampling methods according to Mueller et al. (2004) was used for mushroom survey in 2015 in five sites in the Kilum-Ijim forest. The number of sp… Show more

“…Keragaman fungi (termasuk JPE), persebaran, dan spesifikasi substratnya merupakan hal yang perlu diperhatikan dalam menajemen dan konservasi hutan (Goldman et al, 2015;Teke et al, 2019). Jamur pembentuk ektomikoriza memiliki peranan penting dalam siklus nutrisi, pertumbuhan, dan perkembangan dari bibit (seedling) berbagai tanaman kehutanan (Tapwal et al, 2013).…”

“…Macro-fungi play key roles in the conservation of forest ecosystems and biodiversity through carbon and other nutrient recycling (Gates, 2009;Hawksworth, 1991;Molina et al, 2001). They are an important source of food for forest animals, and also serve as a home for many soil insects and other small organisms that are part of the forest ecosystem (Teke et al, 2019).…”

“…Mushrooms are fruiting bodies of macrofungi, usually produced above the surface of substrates [1]. They grow on diverse substrates, including deadwood, leaf litter and soil [2]. Mushrooms play significant ecological and agricultural roles in forests and other terrestrial ecosystems by providing food sources for wildlife, forming mycorrhizal associations with plants, and decomposing dead organic matter [3].…”
