“…42 Salmonella typhimurium was tested for evaluation of mutagenic capacity of some dental materials. 43 The antibacterial activity of neat membrane (A0b20) and AMX-loaded membranes (A1 and A1.5 series) are presented in Table II and Figure S1 (Supporting Information). As expected, membranes with 1.5 wt % AMX showed higher antimicrobial activity than those with 1 wt % AMX.…”

“…Although the Ames test is a well-established method with high sensitivity, mutagenicity tests may occasionally exhibit false-positive results and it is not possible to draw a conclusive statement based solely on a single study (Maslat et al 2002;Kaplan et al 2004). In this connection, the imidazole derivatives should be more investigated in subsequent studies in order to compare the results from different test systems before they are considered as pro-drug molecules.…”

“…The continuing popularity of the Salmonella mutagenicity assay depends on the ability of prescreening a large number of chemicals for the identification of genotoxic hazards and the elucidation of the biochemical mechanisms of mutagenesis (Mamber et al 1993;Josephy et al 1997). In addition, the test is used for its high sensitivity and recognized validity (Kaplan et al 2004). In the present study, the compounds were tested on Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98 and TA100 using the standard plate incorporation procedure in the presence and absence of metabolic activation.…”

“…The increased frequency of micronuclei found in the Ca 3 SiO 5 group in our study may be related to a chemical compound present in the powder and/or in the liquid component of Ca 3 SiO 5 that is not present in MTA. One study demonstrated that polycarboxylate (Aqualox ® ) had a mutagenic effect in an assay using S. typhimurium TA 98 and TA 1535 27 . This finding supports the hypothesis that the increased frequency of micronuclei observed after exposure to Ca 3 SiO 5 may be related to compounds in the liquid component, such as polycarboxylate.…”
