“…(24) showed that chronic administration of nandrolone can lead to significant increase in HW to BW ratio. They showed that activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme during consumption of nandrolone increases and this can lead to increase of angiotensin II release, which is a factor for hypertrophic induction.…”

“…The serum was kept at -80ºC until analysis. The evaluation of ACE activity in serum was performed with a colorimetric assay as described previously [Franquni et al 2013], with the following modifications; instead of cardiac homogenate, 10 µl of serum was used. For the evaluation of cardiac hypertrophy, the hearts were removed, washed with saline, dried with filter paper and weighed.…”

“…For the evaluation of cardiac hypertrophy, the hearts were removed, washed with saline, dried with filter paper and weighed. The histological analyses for cardiac hypertrophy determination were evaluated by the number of myocyte nuclei per high power field, area of the cardiac myocyte nuclei (µm 2 ), and heart weight to body weight ratio (HW/BW) [Franquni et al 2013].…”

“…For the determination of the kinetic parameters, the enzyme concentration was chosen to hydrolyze less than 5% of the substrate present per unit time in order to obtain the initial rate. To correct for the inner filter effect we used an adjusting equation determined experimentally for 0.1 to 100 μM Abz-FR-OH, used as standard for fluorescence measurements 15 . The ACE activity was expressed in uF.min …”

“…Previous studies have also demonstrated that administration of AAS inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and collagen gene expression, possibly impairing tendon 12,13 , and cardiac remodeling 14 . Recently, were investigated 15 the effects of nandrolone on the ACE activity, cardiac cytokines profile and other biomarkers. It was observed that the use of nandrolone increased the ACE activity, reduced the cytokines anti-inflammatory and increased of matrix type I collagen deposition, demonstrating that the use of AAS may cause cardiac hypertrophy associated to arterial hypertension.…”
