Nano-Cr-film-based solar selective absorber with high photo-thermal conversion efficiency and good thermal stability

Abstract: Optical properties and thermal stability of the solar selective absorber based on the metal/dielectric four-layer film structure were investigated in the variable temperature region. Numerical calculations were performed to simulate the spectral properties of multilayer stacks with different metal materials and film thickness. The typical four-layer film structure using the transition metal Cr as the thin solar absorbing layer [SiO 2 (90nm)/Cr(10nm)/SiO 2 (80nm)/Al (≥100nm)] was fabricated on the Si or K9 glas… Show more

“…The numerous applications are divided into two main groups. First one is the optical and electrical applications such as, optical detectors, sensors, optical filters, lenses, emitting diodes, on concentrating solar power (CSP) [23][24][25][26][27][28] and phase shifting masks [29,30]. The second group is for plastic metal molds, cutting and drilling tools [31,32], due to their high hardness and wear resistance.…”

“…Resulting from the broadband behavior, the angular sensitive property is greatly mitigated for both p‐ and s‐polarization light as is seen from Figure c, which is highly desirable in diverse applications. It is noteworthy that the absorption performance can be further enhanced by incorporating an additional dielectric AR layer atop …”

“…Broadband absorbers contrast with the aforementioned color filters whose function is to produce a relatively sharp resonance to filter a narrow spectral range of visible light. Much effort has been devoted toward achieving “perfect absorption”, which can enable various applications such as photovoltaics, solar‐thermal harvesting, photodetectors, thermal emitters, and bolometers, owing to their exceptional absorption characteristics with unique functionalities for energy harvesting and conversion …”

“…In the last few decades, considerable efforts have been channeled toward developing high and broadband solar selective absorbers for photon-thermal conversion [1]. The ideal solar selective absorber absorbs sunlight by trapping the photons in the layered structures and reflects far-infrared light to prevent thermal radiative emission from the substrate [2].…”
