Nano Silver Fluoride for preventing caries

Abstract: The annual application of NSF solution was more effective in hardening and arresting dentine caries in primary teeth than the placebo. The effectiveness of NSF was found to be similar to silver diamine fluoride when applied once a year, but did not stain the dental tissue black and had no metallic taste. The application is simple, does not require a clinical setting and is inexpensive. NSF was demonstrated to be effective in arresting caries in children in poor communities, but further studies are required to … Show more

“…The production process also affected the efficacy. A previous study also showed that NSF was a good antibacterial and left no black staining on the teeth, in agreement with the results of the present study, where NSF was better at inhibiting both bacterial species (Table 2) [21].…”

“…NSF is known to be a good antibacterial agent [21], and it gave better results than SDF. The present study confirmed the antibacterial effect of NSF on S. mutans but also showed its effectiveness on E. faecalis, which is known to be more resistant than S. mutans.…”

“…Another study stated that silver nanoparticles could have serious toxic effects on the human male's reproductive system [7][8][9]. NSF was made in our laboratory, following the formula that has been reported, comparing to propolis fluoride (PPF) and SDF in their ability to release calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions as a parameter to remineralize the tooth that was analyzed [10].…”

“…However, the tests were performed in vitro or with the use of preparations containing nanoparticles of silver ions, which were applied exogenously as varnishes or gels. [19][20][21][22][23]. Moreover, the D3MFT value does not depend entirely on one sole factor -bacteria.…”
