ANCER has been held to be much less com-C mon in the East than elsewhere, although the high absolute and relative incidence of certain neoplasms, notably those of the liver163 21 the nasopharynx,Q the chorion,s, 2O and the buccal sulcus,l3 have been well recognized for many years. Moreover, tumors of a major system, such as the gastrointestinal tract, common in certain parts of the East as well as in the West, may show marked geographic differences, e.g., in Singapore, carcinomas of the esophagus are common, those of the colon are rare.10
