“…Microorganisms from mangrove soils or sediments are valuable source of metabolites with many novel chemical structures and catalytic functions. A report ( Li et al, 2022 ) provided a comprehensive overview of 519 natural products isolated from mangrove sediments microbes and their bioactivities up to 2021, revealing that mangrove sediments microbes are an important reservoir of novel bioactive substances with considerable potential for application.…”

“…The variety and complexity of the mangrove soil environment leads to the diversity of soil microorganisms ( He et al, 2019 ). Mangrove soil or sediment-derived microbes play an essential role in maintaining the biosphere balance and are also a prolific source of structurally unique and novel bioactive secondary metabolites ( Li et al, 2022 ). Mainly derived from marine fungi, thiodiketopiperazines have been recently reported to have a broad range of significant biological activities, such as brine shrimp lethality ( Liu et al, 2015a ), antibacterial ( Liu et al, 2015a ), antifungal ( Liu et al, 2015b ), cytotoxic ( Yurchenko et al, 2016 ), and C-terminal inhibitor ( Dai et al, 2019 ) activities.…”

“…A large number of structurally unusual and bioactive NPs have been discovered from the mangrove-associated microorganisms, including fungal and bacterial endophytes isolated from the mangrove plants’ leaves, branches, and roots [ 13 , 14 ]. In addition, Mangrove sediments-derived microbes, a rich reservoir of NP diversity, could be utilized to explore new drugs [ 15 ].…”

“…However, the investigation of the mangrove ecosystem is mainly focused on the mangrove-associated microorganism but less on the mangrove flora in recent years. Three comprehensive reviews have recently focused on the NPs from mangrove-associated fungi and mangrove sediments-derived microbes [ 6 , 14 , 15 ]. However, to our knowledge, no review has been published on the secondary metabolites with unusual skeletons from the mangrove ecosystem.…”
