Nd0.5Bi2.5Fe5− yGayO12 thin films on Gd3Ga5O12 substrates prepared by metal–organic decomposition

Abstract: Highly Bi-substituted neodymium iron gallium garnet thin films with a Bi content of 2.5, Nd0.5Bi2.5Fe5− y Ga y O12 (NBIGG) with y = 0–1, on gadolinium gallium garnet (111) and (100) substrates have been prepared by metal–organic decomposition. Magnetic properties and magnetic anisotropy energies were measured using an alternating field gradient magnetometer and by magnetic torque measurement, respectively. Faraday … Show more

“…The calibration from the Kerr rotation angle to the magnetic field was done using a linear approximation formula obtained within the range of magnetic saturation. Measurement errors caused by coercivity could solve by using Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG) substrates, which exhibit small coercivity 23) . Four rectangular-shaped ferrite magnets with a size of 10 mm × 30 mm × 5 mm were used as a sample.…”

“…(7,8) For example, Bi-substituted iron insulator garnets are of interest owing to their strong spin-orbit interaction to generate pure spin currents with the flexible control of magnetic properties by changing the composition. (9,10) As mentioned above, the simple experimental geometry of SSE-based sensors further allows two independent paths for heat and electric currents; thus, two different materials can be optimized separately for the implementation of thin films even over large surfaces also. In the present work, a technique that combines metal organic decomposition (MOD) and spin coating, is employed to deposit Nd 2 BiFe 5 O 12 (NIG)-and Nd 2 BiFe 4 Ga 1 O 12 (NIGG)-based multilayer structures as it is not only a low-cost but also an easy scaling process by simply increasing the area of coating.…”

“…To overcome this problem, we have succeeded in preparing highly Bi-substituted neodymium iron garnet (Nd 3−x Bi x Fe 5−y Ga y O 12 ) films on glass and GGG substrates by the metal-organic decomposition (MOD) method. [24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32] Considering the large-scale measurement of MO images, we need to develop a novel optical system, because the conventional setup used for the Kerr microscope is not applicable for large-scale imaging. If we use the same concept of the conventional setup for a large-scale imaging, large lenses and mirrors are required to obtain a sufficient polarization property for MO imaging, which will be too large for practical use.…”
