“…Necrotising sarcoid granulomatosis (NSG) presents with a similar pattern of organ involvement as classical sarcoidosis (Liebow 1973;Churg et al 1979;Koss et al 1980;Strickland-Marmol et al 2000), but is characterised by the presence of confluent necrotising granulomas in contrast to non-necrotising granulomas. Concurrent small vessel granulomatous vasculitis and wall destruction are usually present, involving primarily the muscular pulmonary arteries and veins (Liebow 1973;Churg et al 1979;Koss et al 1980;Barr et al 1986;Saldana and Israel 1989;LeGall et al 1996). Microscopic examination of lung tissue identified the lesions in this horse as being most consistent with the lesions described in NSG.…”
