Needle knife therapy plus sodium hyaluronate injection for knee osteoarthritis

Abstract: Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a worldwide disease and more and more people are suffered from it. With the increasing number of patients, it brings a huge burden on social economy and security system. There are varieties of methods to cure KOA, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and surgery. Needle knife therapy plus Sodium hyaluronate Injection is one of the prevalent treatments for KOA. Therefore, we perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the evidence for the treat… Show more

“…It can play a lubricating role to reduce the friction between the tissues in the joint cavity after the injection into the joint cavity; it can also promote synovial cells to synthesize polymeric hyaluronic acid to increase the concentration and molecular weight of sodium citrate in the joint fluid and change the viscosity of the joint fluid. In addition to protecting joint cartilage and promoting healing and regeneration of joint cartilage, sodium hyaluronate can also significantly improve the inflammatory response of tissues, relieve pain, and improve joint function [ 5 , 6 ]. KOA belongs to the category of “rheumatism” in traditional Chinese medicine.…”

“…Loxoprofen sodium treatment protects the articular cartilage, facilitates regeneration and healing, and may further improve joint and knee function [18]. The IL-1β affects cell membrane receptors, and nociceptive sensitivity and kinase activity are greatly altered [19]. Pain is the primary symptom of patients with knee arthritis, and TNF-α antibody relieves the pain caused by OA, thereby improving allodynia [20,21].…”

“…Clinical research has been performed to evaluate the efficacy of acupotomy in treating KOA [ 9 , 10 ]. However, the design of both of these former trials was inadequate.…”

“…In clinical practice, acupotomy has been mainly used for the treatment of bone diseases and diseases causing chronic soft tissue injury. Acupotomy can alter the balance of mechanical forces around joints, restore the normal state of joint stress, and alleviate inflammation [ 9 , 10 ]. Therefore, it has a good effect on KOA, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, and heel pain [ 11 – 13 ].…”
