Recent years have seen significant positive changes and developments in oral health–related policy and data on oral health and oral health care in Canada. Simultaneously, on the international stage, the momentum for oral health and related research continues to build. These changes have led to an initiative to create Canada’s first National Oral Health Research Strategy (NOHRS), which was recently published by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research–Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (Allison and Rock 2024). In this communication, we describe the process that was used to undertake this work. We present the resulting guiding principles, the research priority areas, and the framework that emerged, which included 6 strategic priorities grouped into 3 themes: (A) Leading Issues: (1) access to care, (2) inequities, identities, and oral health; (B) Emerging Methods: (3) artificial intelligence, (4) omics; and (C) Overarching Approaches: (5) environmental sustainability, (6) knowledge mobilization and implementation science. In addition, NOHRS includes a series of proposed goals and a timeline over the coming years. The point is to encourage a broad range of individuals and groups of people to engage with this high-level strategy and create plans to implement it. This strategy directly answers the call by the World Health Organization for countries to establish a national oral health research strategy (World Health Organization 2024). We have engaged in an extensive, broad consultative process, resulting in a Canadian NOHRS that is tailored to the needs of our community. Its aim is to galvanize our community into action to address the priorities we have identified. By engaging in this process, we build upon multiple oral health–related initiatives in Canada and on the international stage. We hope to inspire and facilitate similar, much-needed work elsewhere.

In recent years, in the context of China’s continuous medical and health reforms, the health status of Chinese women and children has been significantly improved through the continuous efforts of staff at all levels of maternal and child health care institutions. Many indicators in maternal health care have improved significantly, but the speed and magnitude of changes have varied. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the dynamic changes in China’s maternal health status from 2004 to 2018, in order to determine whether China’s medical and health reform measures in recent years have improved maternal health. A total of 6 evaluation indicators from the data of China Health Statistics Yearbook 2019 were selected. Then, based on the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDA) methodology, the entropy weighted technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS), entropy weighted rank-sum ratio (RSR) method and the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation were employed in this study. In addition, sensitivity analysis was engaged to validate the stability and accuracy of the achieved results. The study results shows the ranking values of various methods were not exactly the same, but the overall trend was consistent. Overall, the maternal health care in China improved from 2004 to 2018 year by year, of which the top four were ranked from 2015 to 2018, and relatively poor from 2004 to 2006. This means that the policies and measures implemented in China’s medical and health reform in the past few decades have effectively promoted China’s maternal health care, and this will also provide a theoretical basis for future decisions to promote maternal health care.
BACKGROUND: The importance of dental implant quality register has been well-documented. However, no systematic review conducted on dental implant quality register can be found in the literature. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to study the existed dental implant quality registries to explain the goals, data elements, and reports of dental implant quality registries. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This systematic study was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases. For evaluating dental implant quality registers, all studies in the English language were examined with no time limitation. Case reports, conference abstracts, and letters to the editor were excluded. The analysis of the quality of the studies was done by the STrengthening the Reporting of OBservational studies in Epidemiology checklist. RESULTS: The primary search identified 5565 articles. After eliminating duplicate articles and articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria and reviewing 40 full texts, 11 studies were included in this study. In this review, seven countries as Sweden, the USA, Canada, Germany, Finland, Australia, and South Korea had dental implant quality registers. Furthermore, the goals of dental implant quality registers were classified into the categories of research, epidemiology, administrative, clinical, and surveillance. CONCLUSION: The results of this study provide dentists and other stakeholders useful information on the existed dental implant quality registers and databases worldwide. It also provides a framework of the goals, data elements, and reports of dental implant quality registry. The establishment of dental implant quality register will be beneficial for societies and also allows them to control the complications of dental implants in future.
