ChemInform Abstract The title compounds have been prepared by fusion of the binary chlorides. The metastable Ni compound can only be prepared by quenching from about 560 rc C. The compounds are cubic, space group Fm3m, Z=4. Li6FeCl8 and Li6CoCl8 undergo a reversible phase transition at 275 and 355 rc C, respectively. The novel Suzuki phases are fast Li+ conductors at elevated temperatures (specific conductivities at 500 rc C: Li6FeCl8 = 1.4•10-1Ω-1 cm-1, Li6CoCl8 = 1.5•10-1, Li6NiCl8 = 6.9•10-2). The Raman spectra show the four group theoretically allowed modes as sharp scattering peaks, which are discussed in terms of the vibrational modes of this structure.
