“…There is very limited data on the patterns of intracranial tumours in Ghana. 12,13 The objective of this study is to determine the pattern of intracranial tumours in neurosurgical patients managed in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital based on the following parameters; demographics, presenting symptoms, spatial distribution and histopathology. This may be extrapolated to the Ghanaian population as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is the foremost neurosurgical centre in Ghana where majority of the intracranial tumour patients are referred.…”

“…3 With respect to the comment on disparity of tumour frequency between our study 2 and work published from Tema, Ghana 1 , our paper looked at consecutive cases of brain tumours seen at the Eye Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) and found that the commonest brain tumours were pituitary adenoma and meningioma. 2 This is not surprising if one considers the sources of referral of the patients reported in the study.…”

“…The preponderance of evidence from the neurosurgical literature would indicate that this volume is extremely small. 2,3,4 The article advocates, "Education of the public as well as physicians to pick up early signs and symptoms of brain tumours is important to ensure timely diagnosis and management". It may also be worthwhile to urgently institute measures that will provide an adequate caseload for trainee neurosurgeons at the tertiary center in order to ensure that the residents' knowledge of the management of brain tumours is optimised.…”

“…Bitemporal visual field defects were the most prevalent (41%) [8]. Common neuro-ophthalmic manifestations include blurred vision, impairment in colour vision, relative afferent pupillary defect, optic atrophy headache and bitemporal field defect [9]. A study showed that the size of the pituitary adenoma has bearing on its effect as those larger than 2 cm cause defects in vision while those 2 cm or smaller do not cause significant visual impairment [10].…”
