Neutral and Cationic Group 4 Metal Compounds Containing Octamethyldibenzotetraazaannulene (Me8taa2-) Ligands. Synthesis and Reactivity of (Me8taa)MX2and (Me8taa)MX+Complexes (M = Zr, Hf; X = Cl, Hydrocarbyl, NR2, OR)

Abstract: The synthesis and reactivity of out-of-plane (Me8taa)MX2 and (Me8taa)MX+ complexes (M= Zr, Hf; X= Cl, hydrocarbyl, NR2, OR) containing the dianionic tetraaza-macrocycle ligand octamethyldibenzotetraazaannulene (Me8taa2-) are described. The reaction of [Li(Et2O)]2[Me8taa] (1) with MCl4(THF)2 yields (Me8taa)MCl2 complexes (2a, M = Zr; 2b, M = Hf). Alkylation of 2a,b with LiCH2SiMe3 or LiMe in hydrocarbon solvents yields (Me8taa)M(CH2SiMe3)2 (3a, M = Zr; 4a, M = Hf) or (Me8taa)MMe2 (3b, M = Zr; 4b, M = Hf) comple… Show more

“…Well-defined cationic complexes of type 40 have been reported recently, which exhibited only very low activity for the polymerization of ethylene. [115] Porphyrins have also been used as ancillary ligands to support zirconium± and hafnium ± alkyl complexes. [116] However, these complexes proved unreactive towards ethylene.…”

“…224 Finally, attempted synthesis of the sterically demanding homoleptic tris-(BDI Xy,Me ) Ln (Ln = Nd, Sm, Er) complexes resulted in ligand deprotonation of the 2-Me aryl substituent, followed by nucleophilic attack on the BDI imine β-carbon (Scheme 55) to form a new ligand skeleton featuring a benzazacyclopentane ring (Fig. [226][227][228][229] Analogous alkyl migration from a Scheme 51 Hydride-induced degradation of BDI scandium complexes. 225 Several examples where a BDI aryl substituent is activated are known but these typically yield metallacyclic derivatives as described in section 10.…”

“…Vor kurzem wurde über wohldefinierte kationische Komplexe des Typs 40 berichtet, die bei der Ethylenpolymerisation nur eine äuûerst niedrige Aktivität aufwiesen. [115] Porphyrine wurden ebenfalls als Hilfsliganden zur Stabilisierung von Zirconium-und Hafniumalkylkomplexen eingesetzt. [116] Diese Komplexe erwiesen sich jedoch als unreaktiv gegenüber Ethylen.…”
