On the ventral tube of males of Onychiuroides granulosus (Stach, 1934) there is a male ventral organ, which consists of two groups of four setae that are thickened, slightly fl attened and bent. All setae of the male ventral organ are inserted in a richly sculptured cuticle. At the base of each seta there are a few large cells (basal cells) that have large irregular nuclei that contain a large amount of heterochromatin. In the cytoplasm of the basal cells there are numerous mitochondria, ribosomes and a rich system of endoplasmic reticulum. The plasma membrane of the basal cells forms richly folded, deep invaginations, fi lled with a dense material, which also occurs in particular setae and on their surface. The present study indicates that the male ventral organ is secretory and does not confi rm its previously suggested sensory function.

The paper is devoted to a taxonomic revision of the genus Sensillonychiurus Pomorski et Sveenkova, 2006. Five new species of this genus, i.e. S. mirus sp. n., S. taimyrensis sp. n., S. vegae sp. n., S. vitimicus sp. n., and S. amuricus sp. n., as well as three new species of the related genus Allonychiurus Yoshii, 1995, i.e. A. subvolinensis sp. n., A. elikonius sp. n., and A. unisetosus sp. n. are being described from various regions of Eurasia. The diagnoses of both genera are amended to include described species. Two genera, Tantulonychiurus Pomorski, 1996 and Thibaudichiurus Weiner, 1996, are treated as junior synonyms of the genus Allonychiurus. Agraphorura eisi (Rusek, 1976) is transferred to Sensillonychiurus; Tantulonychiurus volinensis (Szeptycki, 1964) and T. asiaticus Babenko, 2007 to Allonychiurus. A review of morphological peculiarities of Sensillonychiurus is performed, comparisons with the other genera of Thalassaphorurini given, and a key to the known species provided

In the description of Spinonychiurus epaphius from Ukraine, Kaprus' & Tsalan (2009) have drawn attention to this generic character. This character never has been found within the family Onychiuridae before, but currently it has been discovered by us in four other onychiurid species: Onychiurus spinularius Gisin, 1952, Onychiurus subedinensis Arbea & Jordana, 1985, Onychiurus tianshanicus Martynova, 1971, Onychiurus pamirensis Martynova, 1975 and five undescribed species from Central Asia and Alaska.…”

The genus Spinonychiurus Weiner, 1996 is revised. This genus is assigned to the tribe Thalassaphorurini because of the structure of reduced furca--a small depression in the center of abdominal sternum IV, with 2+2 small posterior chaetae arranged in two rows. Spinonychiurus clearly differs from other members of the tribe by the division of abdominal sternum III on two subsegments, each with an own set of chaetae. Five new species, S. issykkulensis sp. nov., S. nazguli sp. nov., S. natashae sp. nov., S. alaskensis sp. nov. and S. alabelensis sp. nov. are described. Five previously known species, S. edinensis (Bagnall, 1935), S. spinularius (Gisin, 1952) comb. nov., S. subedinensis (Arbea & Jordana, 1985) comb. nov., S. tianshanicus (Martynova, 1971) comb. nov. and S. pamirensis (Martynova, 1975) comb. nov., are assigned to this genus and redescribed on the basis of the type material and new specimens. An identification key to all known Spinonychiurus species is provided.
