“…The male ventral organ within the family Onychiuridae is present in many but not all species (Pomorski, 1997;Pomorski et al, 1998;Kaprus & Tsalan, 2009;Kaprus et al, 2014). Even within one genus, in some species the male ventral organ is present, while in others it is absent.…”

Pomorski and our observations on the volinensis -group of Allonychiurus , all other genera of Thalassaphorurini are characterized by posterior position of furcal remnant in some distance from the border between Abd .3 and 4, and all of them ( flavescens -group of Allonychiurus is the only exception) possess only one row of manubrial setae behind dental setae (Weiner 1996).…”

“…Thus, Sensillonychiurus shares the absence d0 with only two genera of the tribe, Spinonychiurus and Detriturus . Known representatives of both these genera show different distributions of unpaired setae on the abdominal tip (Arbea and Jordana 1985; Palacios-Vargas and Diaz 1995; Pomorski 1998; Kaprus’ and Tsalan 2009), the most similar but yet not identical is that in Detriturus jubilarius (Gisin 1957) (see fig. 97G in Fjellberg 1998).…”

“…The most important and unique character is the division of abdominal sternum III into two subsegments, each with an own set of chaetae. In the description of Spinonychiurus epaphius from Ukraine, Kaprus' & Tsalan (2009) have drawn attention to this generic character. This character never has been found within the family Onychiuridae before, but currently it has been discovered by us in four other onychiurid species: Onychiurus spinularius Gisin, 1952, Onychiurus subedinensis Arbea & Jordana, 1985, Onychiurus tianshanicus Martynova, 1971, Onychiurus pamirensis Martynova, 1975 and five undescribed species from Central Asia and Alaska.…”
