New directions for diffusion of innovations research: Dissemination, implementation, and positive deviance

Abstract: In the present article, we highlight three new directions for scholars interested in diffusion research. While other scholars are actively pursuing diffusion research with different emphases including large-scale randomized trials in international development, policy diffusion, and the diffusion of beliefs through social media, here we focus on dissemination science, implementation science, and positive deviance research. Each of these new directions fills a void in the traditional diffusion of innovation rese… Show more

“…This study helped create, generate, and cascade a social network among three different Bedouin localities, thus creating ties between different communities in accordance with community-based participatory research. We chose to represent the social network disseminating these innovative practices from the inside out and from the bottom up, as is common in the PD approach [ 62 , 63 ]. The change process is led by internal change agents who present their peers with “social proof” that problems can be solved.…”

“…Also, there is a rising question about capacity absorption and innovation diffusion (Moore, 2005) once a value is co-created in a client company. Using the substantive theory from tis Innovation in the consulting industry pilot study as a starting point, future researchers might be able to advance the innovation diffusion theory (Dearing & Singhal, 2020) and the absorptive capacity theory by further investigating the role of consulting companies in innovation diffusion and absorption.…”

“…Difusi sebagai rangkaian Research, Development, dan Diff usion (R,D and D) merupakan salah satu model dari diseminasi-pemanfaatan (dissemination-utilization) dari inovasi (Havelock et al, 1971). Dalam paradigma baru penelitian difusi dan praktek (Dearing & Singhal, 2020) para ahli menempatkan tiga arah baru, yakni diseminasi, implementasi dan difusi. Ketiga konsep ini memiliki perbedaan-perbedaan positif.…”
