New doxorubicin nanocarriers based on cyclodextrins

Abstract: Polymeric nanoparticles and fibrin gels (FBGs) are attractive biomaterials for local delivery of a variety of biotherapeutic agents, from drugs to proteins. We combined these different drug delivery approaches by preparing nanoparticle-loaded FBGs characterized by their intrinsic features of drug delivery rate and antiproliferative/apoptotic activities. Inclusion complexes of doxorubicin (DOXO) with oligomeric β-cyclodextrins (oCyD) functionalized with different functional groups were studied. These nanocarrie… Show more

“…The reduction of DOXO toxic (vesicant and necrotizing) effects of different nanotechnological platforms compared to the free drug has been reported . In light of the interest for DOXO carriers based on CyD derivatives, we investigated the cytotoxicity of DOXO in the presence of the new polymers.…”

“…According to the type of CD, the crosslinker and the processing condition, CDNSs with various cavity sizes and polarity and crystallinity can be obtained. CDNSs, based‐on their nature, have been used in different kinds of applications such as drug and oxygen delivery systems, agriculture, cosmetic, catalyst support, water purification, and responsive hydrogels . Biodegradability, biocompatibility, stability in the pH of 1–11 and negligible toxicity of NSs rendered them as safe drug carriers .…”

“…23 Recently, protein nanoparticles used as drug delivery vehicles and multimodal combinatorial approaches for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) have generated considerable interest. [23][24][25][26] PDT is a wellestablished clinical treatment modality that involves light and chemical photosensitizers along with oxygen in the tissues for the successful treatment of various cancers and non-malignant diseases. 27 An antitumor PDT using indocyanine green (ICG) has been reported previously.…”
