New Insights on the Role of pentraxin-3 in Allergic Asthma

Abstract: Pentraxins are soluble pattern recognition receptors that play a major role in regulating innate immune responses. Through their interaction with complement components, Fcγ receptors, and different microbial moieties, Pentraxins cause an amplification of the inflammatory response. Pentraxin-3 is of particular interest since it was identified as a biomarker for several immune-pathological diseases. In allergic asthma, pentraxin-3 is produced by immune and structural cells and is up-regulated by pro-asthmatic cy… Show more

“…Of these, we identified one biomarker that is of high importance (IL-1B), and three others (MIP-3b, TWEAK R, and Pentraxin 3) that were of critical importance during anaphylaxis. There are previous studies that propose a protective role for Pentraxin 3 and MIP-3b in airways allergies [51,52]. Our findings regarding their negative association with anaphylaxis expands their potential protective roles beyond airways allergic reactions to glutenin-induced life-threatening systemic anaphylaxis.…”

“…PTX3 and TRX1 have been identified as potential markers of oxidative stress in asthma [19,32]. Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in asthma, and these markers have been shown to have associations with oxidative damage and airway inflammation [33].…”

“…There are biologically active substances in the serum, which play a role in the pathogenesis of AA, have the potential to serve as biomarkers, can reflect allergic inflammation, and can be used in clinical practice [14]. Based on the literature data, we chose less investigated biologically active substances involved in T2 airway inflammation [15][16][17][18][19]. We divided the substances into three groups via the role the biologically active substances play in AA pathophysiological pathways: circulating inflammatory biomarkers; blood oxidative stress markers; and extracellular matrix proteinases and degradation products.…”

“…Other analytes that had a significant effect in descriminating between the surgical controls and NSTI are Pentraxin-3 and IL-6. Pentraxin-3, as a soluble pattern recognition receptor also promotes phagocytosis by macrophages and neutrophils (Koussih et al 2021). IL-6 is also secreted by macrophages in response pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and is responsible for stimulating the production on neutrophils among it's many other functions (Mihara et al 2012).…”
