New method for synthesis of fullerenes and fullerene hydrides from benzene

Abstract: New and simple method for synthesis of C 60 fullerene and fullerene (C 60 , C 70 , and C 82 ) hydrides was developed. The substances synthesized were characterized by laser mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, temperatureprogrammed desorption mass spectrometry, and X-ray phase and chemical analyses.

“…These reactions are extremely exothermal, therefore, it can also proceed in a reactor volume (outside of a half-closed crucible) with the formation of a product, which, because of the dynamics of a reactionary flow, will be deposited far from the place of precursor localization. So, fullerenes, quasi-fullerenes and fulleranes at the pyrolysis benzene and its homologies are formed in a vapor-gas reactionary space and are located also far from the most high-temperature zone of the destruction of precursor molecules [23][24][25][26]. From powdery reagents (silicon and carbon) a thread-like silicon carbide is formed from the vapors of silicon and carbon far from a place of its sublimation [27].…”

“…Earlier [25][26][27][28] we have been systematically studied the influence of various technological parameters on composition of obtained products and, in particular, condensed substances formed at heat treatment of hydrocarbons. On the basis of the experimental results the new method of pyrolysis (NMP) of organic vapours was developed [28][29][30][31]. This method differs from two already known processes of pyrolysis [32].…”

“…However, the overall yield rate of fullerene was insufficient for its potential applications in various industrial fields. Therefore, different production methods have been developed for sufficient production of fullerene [18][19][20]. The second proposed method is based on laser ablation of graphite in a helium atmosphere.…”
