“…Data concerning film content and intermediate layers forming at the titanium-film interface show that the kinetic energy of the sputtered atoms is enough for their partial penetration into the titanium substrate. The results are in good agreement with results obtained in [21] which show that at Pt target sputtering, about 6% of the Pt atoms in the coating (Pt film) are replaced by Ti atoms (though the Pt coordination number remains the same). When Pt-C is used, the carbon atoms deposited on the substrate possibly limit the mobility of the deposited platinum species stabilizing Pt cluster growth.…”
