“…Nevertheless, they had reported that there was no prognostic significance of lymphocyte subset analysis in peripheral blood to predict the outcome of patients with unsatisfactory recovery [6]. In a retrospective study conducted by Atan et al [10], NLR and PLR values were higher in the group of patients with Bell's palsy, but they found no correlation between these values and the level of facial paralysis [10]. Sahin et al [11] had showed that neutrophil counts and NLR value increase with in Bell palsy patients but there were no statistical significant changes of PLR, MPV and PDW values.…”

“…(3) Inter-neuronal space increased. 4The bony fallopian canal is normal, with no sign of facial nerve compression by the fallopian canal bone [60][61][62][63] In recent years, it is found that the mean neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and neutrophil values were higher in adult and pediatric patients with Bell's palsy [64,65] Similar changes in peripheral blood leukocyte subpopulations are also described in the process of a few inflammatory demyelinating diseases, such as during the acute stage of Guillain-Barré syndrome and in acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis. Bell's palsy, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, may be an acute demyelinating disease of the peripheral nerve system [68] An examination of the serum samples from patients with Bell's palsy showed elevated concentrations of cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1 (IL-1), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were increased compared with control groups [69,70] In contrast to control populations, decreased percentages of total T cells (CD3) and T helper/inducing cells (CD4) have also been found in the acute phase of the disease.…”

“…A high neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is considered as a reliable etiological indicator of disease severity in inflammatory disorders [58,59]. Studies have shown that the mean NLR and neutrophil values in adult and pediatric patients with BP were found to be significantly higher than in healthy controls [60][61][62][63]. This suggests changes in peripheral blood leukocyte subpopulations akin to those that occur in the process of a few inflammatory demyelinating diseases, such as during the acute stage of Guillain-Barré syndrome and during acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis [64,65].…”

“…In a study, PLR was observed to be higher in patients with BP compared to healthy individuals. But, they did not find any correlation between PLR and grade of BP [17]. In another study, MPV was found to be high in patients with BP.…”
