Sažetak: Održivi turizam, ostvaren je u skladu sa društvenim i privrednim načelima, uz uvažavanje okruženja i kultura. Evidentan je značaj lokalnih zajednica u ruralnim sredinama i njihovo pravo na održivi razvoj turizma. Međutim, pandemija Covid-19 uslovila je rapidno smanjenje turističkih kretanja i neizvesnost oporavka turističke privrede. Istraživanje za potrebe ovog rada obavljeno je pomoću anketnog upitnika, koji je poslat na adrese ugostiteljskih objekata u ruralnim sredinama turističke regije Zapadna Srbija. Anketni upitnik osim opštih informacija, sadrži set pitanja koja se odnose na turiste i perspektive sagledane sa aspekta pružalaca usluga. Ciljevi istraživanja su identifikacija trenutnih posledica pandemije i upoređivanje poslovanja ugostiteljskih objekata u ruralnom turizmu pre i tokom pandemije Covid-19, uzimanjem u obzir principa održivosti. Rezultati istraživanja ukazuju na jačanje uloge domaćeg turizma tokom perioda pandemije, ali i na perspektive opstanka pojedinih ugostiteljskih objekata. U metodološkom smislu, kvantitativni i kvalitativni prikaz podataka, omogućava uvid u najjače i najslabije izazove sa kojima se ruralni turizam u istraživanom prostoru suočava, što predstavlja praktične implikacije za nosioce turističke ponude ovog kraja Srbije.

The aim of this paper is to emphasize the role played by the social, economic and political variables in shaping models of sustainable healthcare systems and strategies able to support and improve the quality of life during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The context of our research is represented by the medical and socioeconomic crises generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic negatively affects healthcare systems, quality of life and the global economy. In this respect, this paper aims to thoroughly scrutinize the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the social and healthcare systems of EU countries, to analyze the impact of human development in the field of the Global Health Security Index and to estimate the relation between resilience and quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research design is quantitative, resorting to the use of both descriptive and inferential statistics, against the background of a long-term comparative approach to the respective situations in the EU-27 countries. Empirical findings are relevant for emphasizing the fact that human development and social progress are predictors for the dynamics of health security measures. Moreover, the quality of the political regime, particularly in the case of full and flawed democracies, is strongly related to a high level of resilience and could influence the perception of quality of life. All of these empirical results could prove valuable for scholars interested in understanding the relationships between democracy, healthcare systems and quality of life, and for political decision makers involved in the effort of reducing the negative effects of COVID-19 in EU-27 countries.

Trends in regional development in Slovenia in the light of the goals of sustainable development

Applying sustainable development into practice is an important national and regional policy goal in Slovenia; in addition, the country’s membership in the European Union further commits it to the goals of sustainable development. The research presented in this article is based on the use of a set of 32 economic, social and environmental indicators of sustainable development and the calculation of a synthetic indicator of sustainable regional development for all twelve Slovenian NUTS-3 regions in the period 2015–2019. In the final step, a synthetic assessment of the possibilities for implementing sustainable development in individual Slovenian regions is given, in which regions are classified into four different types. A comparison with the previous five-year period showed that Slovenia achieved progress in most of the socio-economic aspects of sustainable development analyzed, while the situation deteriorated with respect to environmental aspects. The largest differences among Slovenian regions were calculated in the economic area, and the smallest in the environmental area, which is also in line with the findings of previous research. There continues to be a development divide between the more prosperous western part of the country and the eastern part, which lags behind and for the most part also has poorer prospects for sustainable development. This trend is unfavorable for the balanced as well as sustainable development of Slovenian regions.
