This study examines the influence of the COVID-19 crisis on academic expectations among international students from north-western China. According to past studies, academic expectations are multifaceted, making it critical to test the methods employed to assess this fundamental trait. The outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in various significant changes in education, which have shifted from traditional to online or mixed formats. As a result, examining international students' academic expectations along with their interactions with adopted technologies is a topic that addresses the current situation and issues. A mixed approach, comprising two different instruments (questionnaire and interview), was followed to achieve this primary objective. While a survey with a questionnaire was undertaken with 551 international students, divided into two groups, ten students were interviewed during and after the lockdowns. The findings revealed that COVID-19 had a significant impact on the academic expectations of students as well as many elements such as training for employment, personal and social development, international student mobility, motivation, social pressure, and social interaction with the help of supporting technologies. In terms of gender, men outperformed women in motivation, social interaction, training for employment, and personal and social development factors. Similarly, as per the grade variable (undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral), the same higher trend was seen in postgraduates. Based on these findings, a set of recommendations was put forward. In the future, technology will be helpful in China's educational sector, such as online group collaboration, open education, managing student retention, and supervising teachers' recruitment.

Performance scale application (PSA) usage in the classroom is underutilized, despite the rapid progress of mobile phone and e-learning technology. Lack of self-learning, evaluation, satisfaction, and inability to choose appropriate specialties influence students’ academic achievement in secondary school. The objective of this study is to investigate the development and testing of PSA on students’ learning achievement in secondary school. The PSA was developed on the Android mobile operating system using the extra trees regression algorithm to predict student achievement in secondary school. Students in the 11th grade basic specialty were considered. Three specialties were used, namely scientific, literary, and industry. The variables examined include improving evaluation (IME), improving communication (IMC), improving scientific (IMSC), and satisfaction of learning (SOL). The findings demonstrated that the PSA accurately predicted the students’ choice of specialty, IMC, IMSC, SOL, personalized learning (L), distance L, mobile L, self L, and specialty L. The findings also indicated a positive and significant effect of the PSA on students’ learning achievement. This validates that the extra trees regression is an effective tool for the development of PSA. In conclusion, the PSA has efficiently predicted the choice of specialties and academic achievements of students in secondary schools.

The knowledge society of today is linked to each field of human activity, hence it opens up every reference source and creates quite a number of prospects for personal and vocational advancement for any member of the educational process. Fast educational environment digitalization offers new opportunities for the employment and development of distance and blended teaching modes. In spite of the fact that today’s students are ready to employ the newest information technologies, complete transition to online teaching makes its impact on interpersonal relations. This article studies destructive attitudes and tolerance for stress in students’ interpersonal relations in the information educational environment. The work analyses available psychological investigations of destructive attitudes; it scrutinizes the basic approaches to the studies of tolerance for stress. 60 university students aged between 18 and 25 make the empirical object. The study results in an evidence of the proposed hypothesis; students’ destructive attitudes in interpersonal relations are defined; the level of tolerance for stress is revealed; personal characteristics are studied; interconnection between destructive attitudes, tolerance for stress and students’ personality characteristics is specified. The obtained results might be applied by educational psychological aid experts in their correctional activities aimed at validation of students’ tolerance for stress and interpersonal communication effectiveness.
