The reaction of 3,3`-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine with an adduct of nickel chloride with dimethoxyethane gave a binuclear bridged complex, bis(3,3`-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine)dichlorodi(mchloro)dinickel, in 40% yield. The structure of bis(3,3`-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine)dichlorodi(m-chloro)-dinickel was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecule is binuclear, with the nickel atoms linked by bridging chlorine atoms. The extent of distortion of the nickel coordination sphere is appreciably larger than in the related mononuclear complexes of nickel with 3,3`-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine.Numerous complexes of transition metals with nitrogen-containing donor ligands are known. However, only a few papers [13 4] concerned framework binuclear bridged complexes of Ni(II) with amine ligands. We prepared and characterized a new complex of this type, formed by an aliphatic triamine with nickel(II) chloride.Bis(3,3`-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine)dichlorodi(m-chloro)dinickel (I) was prepared in 40% yield by the reaction of 3,3`-diamino-N-methyldipropylamine with an adduct of nickel(II) chloride with dimethoxyethane [5] in methylene chloride:
