Show more

“…In hybrid sorubim maintained in a net cage, the hepatosomatic index was affected by the level of digestible protein in the diet, ranging from 1.3% to 1.8% (Honorato et al . ). In the present study, the range of the hepatosomatic index among different categories was expected because of the age difference and metabolic status of the liver; however, the index changed little among individuals of the same category.…”

“…Parenchyma and stroma arrangements were similar to those reported by Honorato et al . () studying sorubim specimens maintained in net‐cages and comparable to native teleosts from Brazil, such as Leporinus macrocephalus (Bombonato et al . ), Astyanax altiparanae (Bertolucci et al .…”

“…Fish farming in ponds is one of the oldest methods in aquaculture, mainly used in extensive and semiintensive production systems and, according to Honorato et al (2014), is an excellent alternative for the rational use of water bodies that present difficulties for practicing conventional fish farming. This allows the use of plankton production (SCORVO FILHO et al, 2004), which could improve feed conversion in several fish species (which have gill rakers) and influence oxygen production, interfering with the dynamics of water parameters.…”

“…These values, as found in this study, are within the range that Bicudo et al (2012) classified as efficient. The hepatosomatic index (HSI) can be influenced by two factors: diets rich in non-nitrogenous extracts, as its favor the accumulation of glycogen in the liver (Moro et al, 2010), or by diets with high protein levels that may increase liver size and weight as a result of metabolic overload due to protein degradation for energy purposes (Honorato et al, 2014).…”
