The main objective of metabolic surgery is to promote remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) and, consequently, other diseases associated with obesity. To guarantee satisfactory results, nutritional support is crucial before and after surgery. The aim of this study was to develop a plate model adapted for patients undergoing metabolic surgery as a proposed tool to help nutritionists during patient care. To develop this tool, we used the bariatric food pyramid proposed by Moizé et al. (2010), the bariatric plate model proposed by Cambi & Baretta (2018) and The Plate Model by Camelon et al (1998). Subsequently, a visual metabolic adapted plate (MAP) tool was developed to meet the specific nutritional demands of patients undergoing metabolic surgery. The adaptation was made considering four pillars that go beyond the composition of essential nutrients for a good diet. It is hoped that the use of the MAP can help nutritionists as a tool for food and nutrition education and support adapted to the specific needs of each patient, with a view to improving clinical and nutritional parameters.
