Noncoding RNAs as Biomarkers for Acute Coronary Syndrome

Abstract: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS), consisting of acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina, is the most dangerous and fatal form of coronary heart disease. Acute coronary syndrome has sudden onset and rapid development, which may lead to malignant life-threatening conditions at any time. Therefore, early detection and diagnosis are critical for patients with ACS. Recent studies have found that noncoding RNA is of great significance in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In this review, we… Show more

“…The sponge adsorption effect of circRNA on miRNA occurs mainly through response elements binding miRNA to block the inhibition of miRNA on its target gene expression. When circRNA is highly expressed, the target gene expression of miRNA is up‐regulated, and when circRNA is lowly expressed, the target gene expression of miRNA is down‐regulated 22 . It can be said that the miRNA sponge function performed by circRNA plays an important role in the occurrence of diseases, competitively inhibiting the expression of miRNA and blocking the expression of miRNA on target genes.…”

“…Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is the most fatal form of ischemic heart disease, including ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-STEMI, and unstable angina ( Falk et al, 2013 ). The main clinical presentations in ACS consist of acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina ( Wang and Jin, 2020 ), chest pain, sweating, and nausea ( Khan et al, 2013 ). Advanced atherosclerosis with thrombus is one of the main characteristics of ACS ( Libby et al, 2019 ).…”
