Notch Signaling in Cell–Cell Communication Pathways

Abstract: The Notch signaling pathway is a well-conserved molecular mechanism that serves the purpose of coordinating cellular events occurring within a group of neighboring cells. The interplay between ligands and receptors of the Notch family is crucial in determining Notch status and the outcome of any specific cellular event often triggered by other signaling pathways. However, different characteristics of the cells involved can also determine their capacity to send or receive specific signals. We have revised how N… Show more

“…Details of the 86 KEGG pathways can be found in Table S4 . The most statistically significant pathways include major pathways involved in cell differentiation (Hedgehog signaling, N = 29) 30 , cell migration (Wnt signaling, N = 114) 31 , and cell-to-cell communication (Notch signaling, N = 39) 32 .…”

“…The Notch signaling pathway is a well‐preserved molecular mechanism that coordinates cellular events that occur within a neighboring cell community (Abdel‐Mohsen et al, 2019a, 2019b). The interaction among ligands and receptors of the Notch pathway is critical in deciding the status of Notch and the impact of any particular cellular event often induced by other signaling pathways (Bigas & Espinosa, 2016). Notch signaling was established as a key regulator of energy homeostasis that is closely correlated with glycol‐metabolism and lipid accumulation (Zhao et al, 2018).…”

“…Concerning the overlap with Reactome pathways, the vitamin A target genes obtained from CTD are significantly enriched in signaling by NOTCH. The NOTCH signalling pathway is mainly involved in cell-to-cell communication, 45 and it plays a role in the development of most organs and tissues. 46 Other Reactome terms also have overlapping genes, even if not significant.…”
