Note on the vegetation of the mounts of tlemcen (Western Algeria): Floristic and phytoecological aspects

Abstract: Of the four national hunting reserves in Algeria, the Mounts of Tlemcen Moutas reserve http://reservebio-tlm.com, characterized by a large area, reliefs and a specific climate, implies significant floristic and faunistic richness. Currently, the coexistence of species, such as Quercus faginea subsp. tlemcenensis (DC.) M., Lonicera implexa L., Ruscus aculeatus L., indicates a forest dominant ecological atmosphere, although the region has experienced repeated fires during the 90's. In this research, a phytoecolo… Show more

“…The latter is characteristic of the Iberian Peninsula. However the order of Lygeo-stipetalia Braun-Blanquet and De Bolos (1957) which was always linked to the Therobrachypodietea was separated by Rivas-Martinez (1977) to attach it to the Lygeo-stipeteaclass.It seems to us preferable to keep the previous status, because it is well represented at the southern slopes in our area by perennial Poaceae (Bouazza et al, 2001 andBabali et al, 2013 It is important to note two other alliances: (i) Thero-Brachypodion Northwest of the Mediterranean (Braun-Blanquet, 1925) (ii) Stipion capensis North Africa and Spain (Braun-Blanquet, 1954) Nevertheless, it seems likely to us that the calcifuge therophytes, of Hafir and MoutasReserve, constitute units to be attached to the order of Tuberarietalia guttatae.…”

“…Il serait représenté dans les Monts de Tlemcen en particulier à la réserve de Moutas par une sousespèce : Quercus faginea subsp tlemceniensis (DC.) M. Ce chêne constitue le 1/5 ème de la réserve de Moutas ; avec une surface de 428 Ha (Babali et al, 2013). Il est bien adapté pour répondre au dérèglement climatiques et regagne du terrain par sa capacité de résilience, rejet de souche et germination (Bouazza et al, 2020).…”
