Notice of Retraction: Development of Fall Characteristics Collection System for Fall Prevention Strategies

Abstract: Falls often cause serious injury and health threats for elderly people. It is also the major obstacle to independent living for frail and elderly people. Many researchers try to establish an efficient fall prevention strategies for elderly people by collecting a lot of fall characteristics. However, it is difficult to obtain these characteristics simply from the questionnaires of elderly people. Since they may forget or misremember their falling scenario. In this work, we propose a fall characteristics collect… Show more

“…Sum vector magnitude (F5) has been used in most studies for detecting abnormal signals. The highest peak during the sudden change of this value is used to indicate a fall [ 32 , 38 , 46 , 48 – 50 , 53 , 65 , 67 70 , 72 75 , 77 82 , 84 – 86 , 89 91 , 93 , 96 , 97 , 101 , 102 , 104 , 106 , 107 ]. In [ 85 ], F5 was used to indicate the free-fall state ( i.e.…”

“…According to [ 43 ], $43.8 billion dollars are estimated to be used in fall-related medical care expenditures by 2020. It is of extreme importance to find ways to minimize these costs, and at the same time, improve the quality of life of the people who suffer the consequences of a fall [ 43 , 44 ]. The easiest way to accomplish this is through prevention.…”

“…Although these data collection practices do provide relevant information, the information is not always reliable. This happens because people often forget or remember incorrectly the exact conditions of their fall [ 43 ].…”
