Novel 1,3,4-Oxadiazole Derivatives Containing a Cinnamic Acid Moiety as Potential Bactericide for Rice Bacterial Diseases

Abstract: Rice bacterial leaf blight and leaf streak are two important bacterial diseases of rice, which can result in yield loss. Currently, effective antimicrobials for rice bacterial diseases are still lacking. Thus, to develop highly effective and low-risk bactericides, 31 novel 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives containing a cinnamic acid moiety were designed and synthesized. Bioassay results demonstrated that all compounds exhibited good antibacterial activities in vitro. Significantly, compounds 5r and 5t showed excell… Show more

“…The antibacterial activities in vitro of compounds 1 – 26 against Xoo and Xoc were evaluated according to our previously reported method [ 24 ]. The compounds were dissolved in DMSO, and the solutions were diluted with 0.1% Tween 20 and nutrient broth (NB, 1%) media to prepare different concentrations of the solutions.…”

“…BLB and BLS result in at least 80 and 40% yield loss annually, respectively ( Huang et al., 1997 ; Li et al., 2012 ; Jiang et al., 2020 ). The long-term use of traditional bactericides like Bismerthiazol, Zinc thiazole, and Thiodiazole copper causes drug resistance and adverse events on the safety of the environment ( Wang et al., 2019 ). However, microbial pesticide with low toxicity and easy metabolism properties has been a hot research topic in recent years.…”

“…oryzae ( Xoo ) and results in reduced rice quality and yield with up to 40–80% loss ( Cao et al, 2020 ; Zou et al, 2021 ). Traditional bactericides such as long-term use of bismerthiazol and thiodiazole copper will lead to drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria, which will affect the safety of the environment and plants, while microbial bactericides such as zhongshengmycin and shenqinmycin have low field control effects ( Wang et al, 2019 ; Wang et al, 2021 ). Therefore, it is essential to discover new, highly active microbial antibacterial drugs.…”
