Novel approach for manufacture of single‐grain EuBCO/Ag bulk superconductors via modified single‐direction melt growth

Filip Antončík,
Michal Lojka,
Tomáš Hlásek
et al.

Abstract: Despite the success of top‐seeded melt growth (TSMG) and TSIG, some key aspects of their manufacture need to be addressed including the presence of microstructural defects, inhomogeneities in trapped field and the difficulty of growing large‐diameter bulk monoliths. Recently, a promising new method single‐direction melt growth (SDMG) appears to address the majority of the shortcomings of TSMG and TSIG. Single‐grain EuBCO/Ag bulk with the highest peritectic temperature to date was grown by modified SDMG. This r… Show more

“…The bulks used in this study are single-domain melt-textured GdBCO/Ag (GdBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 + 0.4 mol Gd 2 BaCuO 5 + 10% Ag 2 O) samples produced by the novel 'single-direction melt growth' method [54,55] at Can Superconductors, s.r.o. The details of the synthesis process are described in [56]. Both the disk-shaped bulk and the hollow bulk have a thickness of 5 mm, an outer diameter of 30 mm and a uniform critical current density J c around 2 10 8 A m −3 at T = 77 K. The hollow sample features a 10 mm-diameter hole.…”
