we investigate and experimentally demonstrate an optical phase noise monitoring technique for non-return-to-zero differential-phase-shift keying (NRZ-DPSK) signals using the phase modulation detection. By applying this detection to optical phase noise (PN) monitoring, a 10-dB monitoring dynamic range is achieved when the OPEV varies from 50 0 to 85 0 (the corresponding phase modulator driving power varies from 1-dBm to 8-dBm).
