Novel Copper(II) Complex ofN-Propyl-norfloxacin and 1,10-Phenanthroline with Enhanced Antileukemic and DNA Nuclease Activities

Abstract: We have synthesized and characterized a novel copper(II) complex of the fluoroquinolone antibacterial drug N-propyl-norfloxacin (Hpr-norf) in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) and studied its biological properties as antitumor antibiotic and antimicrobial agent. Human acute myeloid leukemia cell line HL-60, MTT assay, and Trypan blue assay were used to test the antileukemic, the cell viability, and the structural integrity of the cell membrane and cell proliferation properties of (chloro)(Phen)( N-pro… Show more

“…4), suggesting that DNA bound with MIDBT just as the proportion of righthanded form of DNA increased in the solution. Some investigators believed that these type of changes in the CD spectra may be reflected due to the base stacking interactions through intercalation and band-II exemplifying stabilization of the right-handed B form (Maheswari and Palaniandavar, 2004;Katsarou et al, 2008). Tong et al (2010) believed that this phenomenon could be due to electrostatic attraction that stabilizes the right-handed B form of DNA.…”

“…[6] Several authors have studied metalquinolone complexes and tested their interaction with biomolecules or biological activity. [6][7][8][9][10] On the one hand, metal-quinolone interactions are disturbing because the absorption of these drugs is reduced (because of the formation of sparingly soluble metal complexes) but on the other hand it is believed that metal ions are needed for the biological activity of quinolones. From all these facts it is obvious that it is extremely important to thoroughly reveal the details of these interactions.…”

“…A literatura reporta complexos com ciprofloxacina, [74][75][76][77][78] esparfloxacina, 79 cinoxacina, [80][81][82] ácido nalidíxico 83 e norfloxacina. [84][85][86] Complexos de cobre contendo a esparfloxacina e ligantes nitrogenados foram recentemente relatados 87 e estão entre os mais ativos contra Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa e Staphylococcus aureus, quando comparados com outros complexos de cobre contendo …”
