Novel metalloprotease–disintegrin, meltrin ϵ (ADAM35), expressed in epithelial tissues during chick embryogenesis

Abstract: Members of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease) family are involved in fertilization, morphogenesis, and pathogenesis. Their metalloprotease domains mediate limited proteolysis, including ectodomain shedding of membrane-anchored growth factors and intercellular-signaling proteins, and their disintegrin domains play regulatory roles in cell adhesion and migration. In screening for cDNAs encoding chicken ADAM proteins expressed during muscle development, we identified Meltrin ⑀ as a novel member of this … Show more

“…In contrast to previous studies (Watabe-Uchida et al 2004;Chen et al 2007), our results show in detail that several ADAMs are expressed throughout the processes of the lens morphogenesis. Each of the ADAMs investigated demonstrates a spatial and temporal expression patterns in the different cell types of the lens with partial overlap between each other.…”

“…There have been 35 members cloned [1,2]. It has been proved that ADAM proteins are involved in many events during development, such as fertilization, myogenesis and neurogenesis [1,[3][4][5].…”

“…These genes are involved in muscle development (Yagami-Hiromasa et al, 1995;Weskamp et al, 1996;Lewis et al, 2004;Watabe-Uchida et al, 2004). The expression of some members of the meltrin subfamily has been described in avian embryos (Lewis et al, 2004;Watabe-Uchida et al, 2004).…”

“…These genes are involved in muscle development (Yagami-Hiromasa et al, 1995;Weskamp et al, 1996;Lewis et al, 2004;Watabe-Uchida et al, 2004). The expression of some members of the meltrin subfamily has been described in avian embryos (Lewis et al, 2004;Watabe-Uchida et al, 2004). In the quail, ADAM12 is expressed in the cranial ganglia, in the mesenchyme of the limb bud, and in the mesenchyme surrounding the dorsal aorta, whereas ADAM19 is expressed in the cranial and dorsal root ganglia and in the allantois (Lewis et al, 2004).…”
