Novel Method of Ecofriendly Single Bath Dyeing and Functional Finishing of Wool Protein with Coconut Shell Extract Biomolecules

Abstract: The present work mainly deals with the study of the efficacy of coconut shell extract (CSE), an eco-friendly natural waste product, as a dye and also as an acid dyeing medium, for coloration and multifunctional finishing of wool fabric for fire retardancy and UV-protective effects. The wool fabric was dyed with coconut shell extract “as-it-is” and in concentrated form at pH 4.5. A UV–visible spectrometry determination was used for color measurement whereas gas chromatography mass spectrometry identified some o… Show more

“…Penelitian penggunaan pewarna alam semakin berkembang diantaranya untuk mewarnai kain katun (Ding and Freeman, 2017;Haji et al, 2018), kain sutera (S. U. Yang et al, 2018), dan wool (Teli and Pandit, 2017). Teknologi pewarnaan alami juga mengalami kemajuan pesat mulai dari konvensional sampai penggunaan enzim (Vankar et al, 2007), kitosan (Islam et al, 2018), ultrasonikasi atau USG (Benli and Bahtiyari, 2015;Guesmi et al, 2013), penggunaan biomordan (Guesmi and Ben Hamadi, 2018), mordan kombinasi (S. ul , modifikasi permukaan serat (Vila et al, 2017), maupun pencelupan yang dibantu dengan radiasi microwave (Adeel et al, 2018).…”

“…where K stands for absorption coefficient, S stands for scattering coefficient and R stands for the reflectance of the dyed silk fabric at a maximum wavelength (l max). Here l max for Acid Blue 281 and Acid Red 151 are 602 nm and 509 nm, respectively (Meena et al, 2017;Pawar et al, 2020;Adivarekar, 2013b, 2013a;Teli and Pandit, 2017).…”

“…The amide-based chemical structure of proteins shows diverse properties however it is the most significant fact that the high intermolecular binding potential such that protein-based films exhibit improved mechanical properties compared to fat-based films or polysaccharide films [2]. The multifunctional effect could be achieved from green coconut shell extract (CSE) employed on wool (proteinous), jute (lingo-cellulosic) and cotton (cellulosic) that can be a worthy low-cost bio-based packaging material [3][4][5]. Another review reports the properties of sugar palm fibres and starch and its products in green composites and also revealed the prospects of sugar palm fibres and biopolymer for industrial applications such as packaging, bioenergy, automotive and others [6].…”
